Welcome letter

Welcome to Kindergarten!

July , 2017

Dear Parents,

My name is Margaret Codina, and I am thrilled that I am going to be your child’s kindergarten teacher!

A little bit about me:

  • I LOVE teaching!
  • I have a Master’s degree in education from UC Berkeley (California native)
  • This will be my 29th year teaching and my 19th year teaching kindergarten

I am looking forward to partnering with you this year to provide your child with a rock-solid educational foundation and love of learning.

If you can’t attend the school’s Meet the Teacher night on July 26, please call the school at (602)285-3003 and leave me a message so we can arrange another time. I find that when children have a chance to see the room and meet me, it makes them much more relaxed and comfortable on the first day of school.

If you want your child to use a written name that is different than the name on their school registration, please leave me a message here at school as soon as possible and let me know how that name is spelled. I will have nametags on the cubbies and tables by Meet the Teacher night, so I want to make sure that I use the name that your child will go by here at school.

What if my child cries on the first day?

Some kids do and some kids don’t, and if they do it’s perfectly normal. Most kids do best with a quick goodbye. I find that the majority who do cry will only cry for a few minutes until Mom or Dad are out of sight, but then quickly get caught up in the excitement of meeting new friends and participating in fun activities.

Some kids might need a bit more help. Remember, you know your child best, and if he or she tends to be more anxious with new environments, there are a lot of things we can do together to help him or her to get comfortable. If this is a concern to you, please just call me here at the school and we can come up with a plan together.

What should my child bring to school?

Please refer to the school website for a list of supplies.I highly recommend sending your child to school with ice water until the weather cools off. The best way to do this is to purchase a plastic coffee travel mug with a lid from the dollar store. You can either fill it with ice, or even freeze it halfway full of water overnight. I like plastic coffee mugs because they don’t sweat water all over our tables the way frozen water bottles do, and if they fall over they only spill a little bit.

Thank you, I truly look forward to meeting you on July 26. We are going to have a great year!

Sincerely,

Margaret Codina
